About Ian Phillips-McLaren
I’m a photographer working primarily with portraiture, based in London.
My work is shaped by an editorial background and an interest in how people appear when they are given space, time, and minimal direction.
I began photographing in Glasgow and later moved to London, where I became known for portrait and editorial work produced for magazines, record labels, and commercial clients.
My approach has always favoured simplicity and restraint — working closely with subjects rather than constructing images around gimmicks or performance.
Over the years I’ve photographed artists, musicians, and public figures, alongside personal and commissioned portrait projects.
This experience continues to inform how I work today: quietly, directly, and with attention to presence rather than persona.
